Opening in Spring 2026, the Imperial Hotel, Kyoto will open its doors as a 55-room boutique hotel that seamlessly integrates historic preservation with modern luxury. More than a renovation, this project honors the Yasaka Kaikan—a 90-year-old nationally registered cultural property—situated within the prestigious Gion Kobu Kaburenjo precinct.
By revitalizing this significant architectural heritage, the initiative exemplifies a thoughtful approach to urban conservation, reinforcing the notion that cultural assets can be preserved, enhanced, and harmoniously integrated into modern society while offering enriched experiences for visitors.
Established in 1890 as a state guest house, Imperial Hotel remains Japan’s premier luxury hotel group, committed to heritage and excellence. As the fourth property in the Imperial Hotel portfolio—following Tokyo, Kamikochi, and Osaka—this marks the brand’s first new opening in three decades. Originally a theatrical venue, Yasaka Kaikan faced structural challenges due to aging and seismic vulnerabilities. Its transformation will retain key architectural elements—exterior walls, tiles, terra cotta reliefs, and roof—preserving its historical aesthetic for future generations.
Upon completion, the Imperial Hotel, Kyoto will serve as more than a premier destination—it will symbolize the enduring relationship between history, community, and sustainable development. Through the careful stewardship of cultural heritage, this project preserves the past while enriching the future, offering guests an immersive retreat where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony.
